Wireless High Precision Suspension Calibration
Success in motor sports requires racing cars to achieve maximum performance. Wireless monitoring using remote strain gauge acquisition modules can be convenient and cost effective in a test situation.
The Problem:
Precision calibration must be achieved in high performance cars to ensure the weight is evenly distributed between the wheels and equal traction is available. In order to achieve this, the vehicle must be calibrated by fitting replica wheels incorporating a load cell at the base.
The Solution:
A T24-SA telemetry strain gauge acquisition module embedded into each load cell and powered using a re-chargeable battery through a T24-BC1 batter charger, allows the weight exerted on each wheel to be measured. The four measurements from each corner of the car can be displayed simultaneously on a PC using a T24-BSu telemetry base station. From this, the centre of gravity of the vehicle can be calculated. The car's suspension can then be altered and the resulting change in weight on each wheel and movement of the centre of gravity can be shown, thus allowing engineers to tune the suspension to within a tenth of a kilo.
